Q: How long have you worked with FamilyCare?

A: I started working for FamilyCare December 2014 (I think).

Where are you from?

I am from Huntington, WV. I was born at Cabell Huntington Hospital. I completed all of my schooling in Huntington—elementary to medical school.

Why did you decide to pursue a career in medicine?

This is a little complicated to answer. I am not completely sure. I remember being hospitalized as a child for an illness. As a teen, I volunteered thousands of hours at Cabell Huntington Hospital. I spend most of my hours on the mother baby unit and on the pediatric floor. I also volunteered for many years at church working with the youth. I loved watching medical shows growing up. I enjoyed studying math and science.

What is the best part of your job?

Children. I love their smiles, laughter and honesty. I love to hear what they have to say, how they think about the world and the concerns in their lives. Children are full of joy and typically view the world in a positive manner. They express goals without limits. They serve as an encouragement to always see the good in others and in life.

Do you have a favorite memory from your time with FamilyCare?

When my children saw the FamilyCare billboard with my image. My son told me that I was famous and must be the best doctor ever.

What’s one piece of health advice you wish every patient would take to heart?

Laugh as much as you can. Proverbs 17:22 A merry heart doeth good like a medicine: but a broken spirit dries the bones.

What do you enjoy doing most outside of work?

I love quality time with my family. I love to travel and explore places I have never seen. The pediatric nurses will laugh if you ask them about my summer plans. I initially started with driving across the country to Denver, Colorado. . . but I quickly expanded the trip into a 90 hour car ride. The trip expanded to include Pikes Peak, Salt Lake City, the Four Corners, Sand Dunes National Park, Grand Canyon, Las Vegas, parts of California, Hoover Dam, Yellowstone National Park, Mount Rushmore, the Badlands, Omaha Nebraska and the list goes on. Sadly due to Covid and the concerns of the wellbeing of my patients and family, I have postponed this trip.
