Provider Spotlight: Blaire Smith, DO
After completing her medical training, West Virginia native Blaire Smith knew she wanted to live and work close to home—to give back to the place that gave so much to her during her own childhood. Dr. Smith currently practices as a pediatrician at FamilyCare’s St. Albans and Cross Lanes locations.
Where are you from?
Beckley, WV.
How long have you worked with FamilyCare?
One year in November!
Why did you decide to pursue a career in pediatrics?
I decided that I wanted to become a doctor after being a camp counselor at a camp for children with special needs in high school. That experience led me to realize that I wanted to have a role in helping children grow and develop and overcome the many obstacles they face in life.
What is the best part of your job?
Definitely the children. I love getting to interact with them and seeing them grow and develop, as well as getting to know the families. The kids always bring such joy and laughter, and they’re so honest. You never know what you’re going to get, and I love that.
What is your proudest professional accomplishment?
Becoming a board-certified pediatrician.
Do you have a favorite memory from your time with FamilyCare?
Really just being welcomed into the FamilyCare family and getting to know everyone here!
What should new parents know about keeping their children healthy?
Following through with your kids’ routine wellness visits is extremely important, because it ensures that we can help monitor their development, take care of any medical problems early, and see to it that they’re growing up as healthy and thriving kids.
What do you enjoy doing most outside of work?
I enjoy spending time with my friends, family, and our two golden retrievers, Gracie and Bella. We take them to the dog park almost every night and do a lot of outdoor activities with them on the weekends. I also enjoy traveling and going to WVU football games in the fall to cheer on the Mountaineers!
