FamilyCare Hosts First Annual Kids Bash
FamilyCare Health Centers held its first annual Kids’ Summer Bash event last Saturday at its Patrick Street location on Charleston’s West Side.
During this afternoon of family-friendly, summer fun, hosted in partnership with Aetna Better Health, The Health Plan, and Unicare, children and families were invited to take part in a variety of outdoor activities and learn about ways they can stay active and healthy year round.
“Our goal was not only to get kids moving and give them a chance to have fun,” said Fran Coleman, FamilyCare’s senior vice president and chief operating officer. “But also to ensure that families in the neighborhoods we serve are afforded access to information on how to build healthier lifestyles.”
The event, which was free and open to all, featured inflatables, outdoor games, balloons, a DJ, fire truck visit, free giveaways and educational opportunities for parents. Youth sports physicals were offered at no cost through FamilyCare’s mobile health unit as well.
“FamilyCare is always looking for new opportunities to bring care directly to our community,” said Tim Nunnery, Marketing and Communications Manager at FamilyCare. “Events like this are an excellent way to do that, helping advance our mission of making quality, comprehensive care available to everyone in West Virginia so that we can build healthier communities.”
Originally established in 1989 as a provider of women’s health services, FamilyCare has continued to grow to meet the needs of the community and serve every member of the family.
Following on the success of the Kids’ Summer Bash, FamilyCare plans to organize a Back-to-School Bash later this summer.
