Grants Specialist

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to frequently stand, walk, sit, stoop, and reach
  • Must be able to utilize typing skills frequently
  • Prolonged periods of sitting working on a computer
  • Specific vision abilities are required, which include: distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus

 Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or closely related field
  • Strong analytic skills, problem-solving, and critical thinking
  • Outstanding written communication, verbal communication, and computer skills

Basic Functions: 

The grants specialist will provide on-going budget and programmatic monitoring for grant-funded programs to ensure compliance with contractual obligations.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Track all grant-related expenditures and reconcile documentation to the organization’s general ledger for each grant
  • Prepare and submit required reports under deadline, coordinating with staff to ensure accuracy of data.
  • Maintain funding-related files and ensure terms and conditions of funding are satisfied.
  • Assure appropriateness of all items billed to a funder according to the funder’s fiscal policies
  • Prepare monthly reports to show expenditures and balances per grant
  • As necessary, meet with program staff to strategize needed budget changes that accurately reflect the program and are allowable according to the individual funder
  • Prepare/submit budget change amendments in a format appropriate for each funding source
  • Keep up to date with budget-related policy, requirements, and changes thereof for each assigned funder
  • Follow funder and agency policies and requirements with accuracy and attention to detail
  • Conduct meetings, as needed, to provide feedback about grants and contracts
  • Prepare monthly/quarterly/annual reports as required by the funder.
